「北風阿，醒起！南風阿，吹來！吹在我的園內，使其中的香氣散發出來。」－雅歌4:16
各種香氣原本靜靜的潛藏在園內各樣花草樹木裡，如同尚未開發、運用的恩典，悄悄躲在基督徒的心中。
有些人愛宣揚自己的信心，然而他們生活中卻沒有神聖之愛與敬虔行為的活出。若有一陣風颳過了荊棘叢和香料樹，只有香料樹才能發出芬芳濃郁的香味。
有時神差來猛烈的狂風擊打祂的孩子，試練出他們潛藏在深處的恩典。
火炬燒得最旺時，是它搖晃得最厲害的時候；檜木香氣最迷醉人的時候，是它在火中焚燒之時；照樣，基督徒最尊貴的品格，也是來自苦難凜冽的北風。
一顆受傷的心，最能釋放出令神陶醉的芬芳。
"Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south, blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out!" (Song of Solomon 4:16).Look at the meaning of this prayer a moment. Its root is found in the fact that, as delicious odors may lie latent in a spice tree, so graces may lie unexercised and undeveloped in a Christian's heart. There is many a plant of profession; but from the ground there breathes forth no fragrance of holy affections or of godly deeds. The same winds blow on the thistle bush and on the spice tree, but it is only one of them which gives out rich odors.
Sometimes God sends severe blasts of trial upon His children to develop their graces. Just as torches burn most brightly when swung to and fro; just as the juniper plant smells sweetest when flung into the flames; so the richest qualities of a Christian often come out under the north wind of suffering and adversity. Bruised hearts often emit the fragrance that God loveth to smell.
